On Saturday, I went to help out at my middle school drama program. They are producing a show that goes on in 2 weeks. I help to create their dances, and I also help the director in anything I can, so she has a less chance of becoming stressed out. Working with the children in this program brings me much joy, and it is something that I love doing. When it comes to helping my director in anything that she needs I believe that I show compassion. I would never want her to over stress or struggle for something that is enjoyable, and fun in the end. This is why I enjoy going every weekend. I know that the outcome will be amazing and that makes the entire process worth it.

Every weekend I help with my CCD program with first grade children. During this time every Sunday I help the teachers prepare the students to learn more about their faith as they inch closer to receiving their first communion. The most recent weekend that I went to assist, it was Divine Mercy Sunday. As a program, we all went into the Church to repeat the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. In this case I had to make sure all of the children were paying attention and praying with the leader. I have also recently tested them on their Our Father, and Hail Mary. They were tested on this because it is almost the end of the year in the program and those prayers are extremely beneficial to their first communion. Participating in this every Sunday shows Compassion which is one of the core values. I am compassionate about my faith and sharing it with a younger generation, so they can become compassionate as well.
Every Saturday I go to my middle school to help choreograph dances for the musical. It is something that I thoroughly enjoy doing. I get to help the kids learn the art of dancing while we get this done. It is amazing to see their faces once they finally learn how to do the dance perfectly. It is a truly rewarding experience. It is something I am truly compassionate about. I show this Compassion each week as a practice of putting my core values into play. Helping students learn something new is truly amazing and it is something I look forward to and want to do permanently in the future. I hope to continue volunteering in things that help children learn something new, and choreographing for this musical during my free time is a perfect example of that.
Today for our independent service day, I thought I would do something to benefit myself, my family, and the world around me. I decided to clean out my closet of all of my clothes and donate the ones I don't need anymore to people who actually do. This benefits me and my family because it is one less thing we'll have to worry about in the future. It also helps my parents clean out the house as we aim to eventually touch up some parts of our home. This helps the people and world around me as well. I have a plethora of clothes that I don't even reach for anymore, and the people around me definitely need them more than I do. I enjoy donating to these people because it gives me the satisfaction of doing the smallest thing to help this world become a better place. As I did this today, I thought about my Core Values and how I can put them to use during the day of service. I was showing Solidarity with those in need throughout the day. I know that the people I would be donating these clothes to would benefit greatly from them, and that is what shows my Solidarity with those in need.
Every Sunday I aid at my parish CCD program. However, I am always doing something different. This week I was in a specific class. In the beginning I took their attendance, and afterwards I made sure that the children were listening to their Catechists. We start each class with a prayer like Our Father, Hail Mary, or Glory Be as they are just learning how to say them. Following that, we do the ten steps of mental prayer. This is a time for the children to connect to God. Then, we get on with the lesson. I make sure that they are listening and participating in every class. I believe that this shows Compassion towards the children and working with them. Being compassionate is one of our Felician core values, that are strongly recommended.
Every weekend I attend my parish CCD classes. I am put with a new class of students each week, and assist them in what they are learning about their faith. These children can be anywhere from 6-12 years old. Doing this every week is quite humbling, and seeing the children always puts a smile on my face. Not only do I help the children, but I also assist the teachers as well. If they need something done like attendance, or making copies, I help them with that as well. I believe that this shows Compassion. I show much Compassion when it comes to helping those learn about their faith. It is something I look forward to every week.
In my community or town there is a homeless lady that is often wandering around. She is a wonderful woman and I like to take every opportunity I have to help her out. There have been multiple instances when I have taken a step further to make sure that she was alright. For example, I packed a bag of clothes that my family and I don't use anymore and I gave it to her. I didn't just give this to her out of pity, but I did it because of the type of person she is. She always makes sure to thank me even if I just donate a bit of money for her to eat that day. Helping her out, and seeing her smile makes me extremely happy. As it is shown in this paragraph, I often find myself to have solidarity with those in need. I think that this shows that core value. I hope to continue assisting her in the future as I get older and can take matters into my own hands regardless of what my family does.
Although we have uniforms here at ICHS, we have many opportunities for dress down days. However, this isn't just for us. If we have a dress down day, we pay money to donate to certain things. For example, we've had dress down days for childhood cancer, breast cancer, Alzheimer's and more. I truly enjoy taking part in these as it is a way to give back to people in need. It is not just a way for me to get out of my uniform, but a way to know in my soul that I did something good for the world. We have our core values that many encourage us to follow, and I believe that donating to these dress down days shows my solidarity to those in need. It is showing how I care so deeply for those who are a little less fortunate than I may be, and it shows my way of giving back to them. This is why I donate now and will keep donating to these dress down days in the future.
Today, for service I was assigned to create potted plants for the felician sisters. However, I don't at all see it as an "assignment." Doing this service today was a wonderful experience for me and my peers as we painted pots and planted flowers in them. Working with my fellow students and some of my teachers as well was also very enjoyable. It was a fun way to give back ot the community. Towards the end we all gathered as a group and went into the gym to have some fun with the Felician Exceptional students. In my opinion, that was the best part of the day. Seeing their smiles as they were dancing their hearts out was truly a humbling and beautiful experience. I look forward to having more service days just like this one in order to broaden my view on many different things.
Service to me means taking time out of my life to help people in need. It is a way to be generous towards other people. It is a humbling experience that allows me to feel at peace and like I did something good for the world. For example, if I were to assist my parish in their CCD programs, I would be taking my time and putting it towards assisting others. Doing service in my community and seeing the smiles on people's faces after helping out encourages me to want to do community service more often. This is was service means to me.
